Sightseeing in Perth County

Sightsee the fresh countryside air, enjoy an Amish Auction, cruise country roads and come to appreciate the lush green pastures and picturesque 19th century heritage towns of St. Marys, Milverton and Millbank.

Roam Shakespeare — an antique-lovers mecca. Mark your calendar for a unique summer gathering of thousands of people coming together for the traditional Amish School Auction at Country Quilts & Crafts, Millbank, on July 19th, with quilts, handcrafts, food and livestock representing the rich Amish culture. Or visit a grand house set within blooming gardens that is Castle Kilbride with its ornate ceilings, frescos and richly carved woodwork echoing the lifestyle of a 19th century flax baron.

The summer sunshine and clean country air is ideal for a group of friends to cycle the afternoon away stopping by farm-gates brimming with fresh produce, country lanes cooled by overhanging bowers and lunching with a picnic made up of local delicacies. By chance you will meet up with Amish in buggies, in the fields and at play on their traditional bicycles. At times you might think you were peddling through southern Europe but you’re just 90 minutes outside of Toronto. Or visit Wildwood Conservation Area with 20 kilometres of hiking trails, stopping for a refreshing swim. Take the Avon Hiking Trail, a 110 kilometre stretch that links the Thames and Grand Valleys.

For the truly dedicated outdoorsman, don’t forget to bring your clubs and play both St. Marys Golf and Country Club and the Stratford Country Club courses.
