Blyth Festival
2009 Brochure

From the witty to the dramatic to the tragic

Stratford is the heart of theatre in Ontario. Enjoy Shakespearean classics, Sondheim musicals and Chekov and Wilde at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival or take in some truly original and unique plays about the Canadian rural experience at the Blyth Festival.

The critically acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival appeals to every taste this summer, from the rousing musical West Side Story based on Romeo and Juliet to the hilarious bawdiness of Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum or the Canadian premiere of Ben Jonson’s Bartholomew Fair. The two masters, Brian Bedford and Desmond Heeley, work their magic in the extravagant The Importance of Being Earnest. Drama is well represented by Macbeth, Chekov’s Three Sisters and Julius Caesar, as well as romance in Cyrano de Bergerac and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Come experience the finest repertory theatre in North America presented and performed by Tony award winning actors, designers and directors.

Or if original Canadian plays capture your spirit, take a short drive to Blyth. This summer the Blyth Festival season features The Bootblack Orator, the bittersweet The Mail Order Bride, the romantic comedy Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad and the quirky The Nuttalls by the Governor General’s Award winning playwright Michael Healey about a conflicted mother and son.
